Denmark is steeped in a rich and diverse history, just waiting to be discovered. The impressive legacy of Denmark's long, regal past also awaits you, in the many Danish castles and manor houses open to the public. For children, there are hundreds of history museums with interactive exhibits and living museums outdoors. So step back in time and venture into the history of Denmark. Denmark is a small country with 406 islands and 7314 km coastline. Denmark has repeatedly been voted at the happiest country, the first time was in 2005.
The weather in Denmark is characterized by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the warm Gulf Stream. The average temperature in Denmark is around 15-16 degrees in the summer and around or just above freezing in winter. Winters with long-term supply of cold air from the continent is sometimes rise to decidedly icy winters, where the inland waters freeze. Denmark is located on the tip of mainland Europe, the main means of transportation to Denmark from the UK is via air and sea. Denmark's main airport is Copenhagen Airport, which is serviced by all major international airline operators. You can also fly to the Jutland peninsula serviced by Billund, Aarhus and Aalborg airports. As there are no longer a direct ferry line from the UK to Denmark, we have also made suggestions for alternative routes by car. The Constitution states that a member of the Royal Family must be a member of the Church of Denmark, though the rest of the population is free to adhere to other faiths. The Danish education system provides access to primary school, secondary school and higher education. All college and university education in Denmark is free of charges; there are no tuition fees to enroll in courses. Students in secondary school or higher and aged 18 or above may apply for state education support grants, known as Statens which provides fixed financial support, disbursed monthly.
